unit philosophy... 5 - constantly question yourselves what in your own opinion, the contemporary and future roles of architects are...I have never really taken notice of the unit philosophy in the past, however looking at it during this lecture, the above statement stood out to me more than the others.
Unit theme and approach... An architectural proposition should be a response to needs, the needs should be identified by considering multiple contexts. Climatic, cultural, ecological, economic, geographical, political, social, technological
I think this should go without saying, however much architecture within our university life seems to ignore many of the above factors. I know myself and others in the past have created designs which obviously ignore some of the factors needed. This means that the designs have obviously not been explored as fully as they should have been, however, it can be very difficult in the time given to fully iron out the design. It is my hope that this semester I am once again able to explore my designs fully and create the best possible architectural outcome.
I think this semester looks to be a very interesting and different design class. I hope that we are really able to look at possible problems of the future and create some plausible ideas and interesting outcomes.
Building should look into future opportunities...
you will present your proposal as architectural fiction...
Lifestyle - mayor of New York, concerned about n.y population. Many people are single but cannot afford to live by themselves. New apartment styles seem to be very very small.
Threat - U.K Olympics, army has to secure London because security forces didn't have numbers to secure in case of terrorism
Finance - financial market located on ship travelling around the world
Food - future scenarios of London. farmyards in London main city
I think as the world progresses we will continue to find ways to make everything more efficient and less work for everyone to do. The fact is the finance possibility could be a very viable option if there are computers to do all the work, which will make it more reliable and allow others to do other things instead. Saying that however, I think there needs to be a point which we don't exceed, because if you really on machines too much, you take away jobs, increase unemployment, and if everything can be done for everyone, we will all be fat and lazy. What is worse that not being able to support yourself?
Life version of dropbox - data in the brain and other things are able to be taken in and out of oneself and stored digitally... I have no doubt that in the distant or not too distant future, something like this could happen
Look how far we have progressed over the past century. We have gone from horse and cart to high powered motor vehicles and planes. We have gone from wars fought on the ground to nuclear missiles with pin point accuracy. We are discovering more and more about the human body every year and making advancements in things we never knew existed 20 years ago.
