The image below shows the plants and the environment they would be existing in, with the underground community corridors. As you can see the plans have very little soil depth but are sill able to grow to their usual size. This is because of bioengineering which has allowed society to alter plants to suit whatever environment we wish. The engineering of new soils to be more rich in nutrients gives plants all they need and the U.V lights overhead provide adequate sunlight for them to stay healthy.
