Week 15 Renders - Plant Evolution

The image below shows the plants and the environment they would be existing in, with the underground community corridors. As you can see the plans have very little soil depth but are sill able to grow to their usual size. This is because of bioengineering which has allowed society to alter plants to suit whatever environment we wish. The engineering of new soils to be more rich in nutrients gives plants all they need and the U.V lights overhead provide adequate sunlight for them to stay healthy.

Week 15 Renders - The Layouts

There are two layouts within the community that work together. These layouts are the concrete hole grid and the dwelling layout grid. The two grids site perfectly on top of one another and relate to one another. The first image below shows the concrete cut-out square grid. This grid works on a 6 x 6m grid  and any of the squares can be taken out. The removal of these squares allows for cross floor ventilation.

The image below is the dwelling layout grid. These are the basic property boundaries and they sit on a 12 x 12m grid. These dwellings can be halved or a person is able to occupy two dwellings or even on multiple levels. This is when the concrete cut out grid an the dwelling grid work together. In a single dwelling people will have two concrete cut-out squares. If they live on two levels, they can remove a cut-out square, alternatively if they live on one level, they can cover the squares up with ceilings and floors. The grids directly next to the vertical shafts are removed so that there is public space directly adjacent and surrounding the shafts. This allows space for vegetation to grow and people to enjoy. The concrete squares are still able to be removed in these locations.

Week 15 Renders - Perspective of Model

The image below is an axonometric view of the model and the vertical shafts. It shows the basic form and where the vertical shafts are within the model and the curved paths leading between the four vertical shafts. This is the final design and layout and will be put on the slide show to represent shape, size and layout of the underground community.

Week 15 Renders - Dwelling Layouts

There are no typical layouts within the underground community. Below are four different types that people may choose when moving into the community. The first image below shows a single block with the dwelling occupying the whole block. A person may choose to occupy the whole block and have no yard and instead have the mimicking windows within.

The diagram below is a double block dwelling with an exterior yard surrounding the house. The house is sitting on the front of the block and has a back courtyard area with grass around the block.

The third image is a full double block dwelling with and interior yard. The person occupies the whole block and instead has a small courtyard area within. The courtyard area has the exterior U.V lights within, meaning the vegetation can grow in this area.

The image below is a family block dwelling, which occupies four blocks. The dwelling is larger than the other dwelling sizes and this particular layout has a yard surrounding the dwelling too. This house also has a small square courtyard area. The exterior and interior walls are made of concrete and can be laid out in any fashion, depending on the wish of the person.

Week 15 Renders - Services

The image below shows a quick diagram of where the services will run to each dwelling. These service ducts will run from the service corridors at each end and provide all power, water and any other service or cable. As is visible, they will run along the back wall of each dwelling before feeding to all of the other taps and power points.

The image below is another quick diagram showing the service corridors on the right and the service ducts running of them before going to each dwelling.

Week 15 Renders - Corridor Typologies

There are two types of corridors within this site. The first type which is visible below is the curved corridor which runs between and connects the four vertical shafts. These are like the main pathways leading from major point to major point within.

The image below is a plan diagram of the curved corridor. The draker concrete squares are currently removed, meaning people are able to see onto the level below.

The perspective below is a straight corridor or street within the underground community. These straight corridors run and give access to all of the dwellings. The straight corridors run connect with the curved corridors so people have easy and quick access to the vertical shafts.

The diagram below is a plan of the straight corridor or street. As is said before the darker concrete squares have been removed.

The diagram below is a section of the straight corridor. This section shows the various ways the concrete squares can be within the corridors. The concrete squares can still be sitting in place, or they can be removed to give visual access to the other levels and to allow for cross floor ventilation.

Week 15 Renders - Wall Panels fitting together

The concrete wall panel system is pre fabricated within all dwellings. For ease of construction all panels will have indents, as seen below, to make the construction stage easier.

The image above and below are plan views of the wall panels fitting together.

The two images below are the perspective views of the wall panels fitting together.

Once the walls have been put in place, a slight spray of water will begin the morphing of the walls together. Ass seen in the plan images above, the yellow material is the morphing concrete. This allows them to site in place, fixed together. The morphed concrete can be sand back flush with the wall so no rendering of the walls need to be done.
